European Young Chemist’s Network

The European Young Chemists’ Network is the young division of EuCheMS. Every chemist under the age of 35 that belongs to any of our fellow societies (see the full list here) automatically becomes a member of the EYCN. Today, the EYCN has delegates and representatives in 25 countries (from 27 chemical societies)

EYCN Programme Kindly sponsored by Unilever

EYCN organises, in collaboration with the Società Chimica Italiana and Consiglio Nazionale dei Chimici, the European Young Chemist Award – EYCA. This awards recognises the best PhD students and Postdoc researchers in Europe. Lectures by the selected finalists will be open to the public.

Tuesday 28 August 9.30 - 13.00
European Young Chemists Award - Postdoc Level

The European Young Chemist Award -co organised by EYCN, the Italian Chemical Society and the Consiglio Nazionale dei Chimici recognises the work of outstanding chemists. This session will feature presentations by the EYCA Finalists in the Postdoc level, as well as an opening talk by EYCA 2016 winner Dr. Maria Escudero-Escribano.

Chair: Dr. Bibiana Campos-Seijo

Tuesday 28 August 14.30 - 16.30

Chair: Dr. Bruno Pignataro

The programme will feature keynote talks delivered by promising young chemists in Europe like ERC and MCSA grantees. Lectures will cover six different chemistry fields to try to be as inclusive as possible.

Monday 27 August  9.30 - 13.00
Future Leaders (session 1)

Promising young chemists in Europe will deliver talks on six different chemistry fields. All of them are currently group leaders, and most of them have received funding from prestigious funding schemes like ERC, MSCA, and others.

Chair: Dr. Bibiana Campos-Seijo

Future Leaders (session 2)
Promising young chemists in Europe will deliver talks on six different chemistry fields. All of them are currently group leaders, and most of them have received funding from prestigious funding schemes like ERC, MSCA, and others.

Chair: Prof. Pilar Goya, EuCheMS President. (TBC)

The EYCN symposium will have a series of workshops for early career chemists. Some of them will be designed to improve soft skills (paper writing, oral communication, problem solving, job interviews) and others will be specifically targeted towards grant proposals. Recent ERC and MSCA awardees will share their tips to compile a winning proposal for EU funding.

How to be successful in scientific publishing - Philippe Garrigues

The course will present advice and comments for overcoming usual and common obstacles such as targeting journals, finding an attractive entry for the manuscript, presenting tables and data, writing a fruitful discussion. This course was designed to assist scientists, junior and senior in writing successful scientific papers for dedicated journals.

Wednesday 29 August 12.30 - 14.00
